Toaster (voiced by Deanna Oliver) meets the Viking Lander (voiced by DeForest Kelley) Disch’s story, and is based on his 1988 children’s book follow-up of the same title, although that is not noted in the credits. Unlike The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue, this returns to the original source material, Thomas M. The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars was made back-to-back and employs identical production credits to The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue, with the exception of some extra voice talents brought in to play the new appliances. This was the second of the Brave Little Toaster sequels made by Kushner-Locke, the first being The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue (1997). In the 1990s though, it became one of a host of other animated films that were spun out into lucrative video-released sequel franchises, following the lead of Disney who churned out numerous cheap sequels to their classic animated films. All in all, a bland sequel, but not a bad one.The Brave Little Toaster (1987) was an appealing animated film, although one that enjoyed little success when it originally came out. The characters are still likable, and the voice actors do do very well, even the new-comers and replacements. The writing isn't as strong, but there are some humorous and poignant ones which I appreciated. The backgrounds are decent enough as are the colours. However, apart from some characters being re-designed and looking rather strange and off-model, the animation is not too bad. Also it is lacking the eerie yet compelling, touching quality the original has. The songs are on the forgettable and unnecessary side too, the one at the beginning especially is the epitome of sap. It is too short, and the story is rather predictable and rushed despite the quite nice ending. Its problems are actually similar to the first sequel's. Both are rather bland in comparison, but both are watchable unlike some of the other animated sequels I've seen.
I love the first Brave Little Toaster, and saw both its sequels The Brave Little Toaster to the Rescue and The Brave Little Toaster Goes to Mars.
